KUALA LUMPUR - The police will record the statement of Ipoh Timur Member of Parliament (MP) Howard Lee Chuan How who had allegedly made his own interpretation of a Quran verse.

This matter was confirmed by Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (JSJ) director Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain.

"I confirmed that the Classified Crime Investigation Unit (USJT) of JSJ Bukit Aman is investigating this case.

"We will record his (Howard Lee) statement in the near future," he told Sinar

Prior to that, Perak Police chief Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said that the first report was made at Jalan Tun Razak Police Station, Kuala Lumpur in addition to a report by non-governmental organisation (NGO) Jalinan Bersatu Sahabat (Jabat) Perak yesterday.

Perak Jabat president Amiruddin Mohd Daud had reportedly said that the police report was made to request an investigation and action to be taken against Howard as he was considered to be insulting Islam since the MP is not a Muslim, but had interpreted a verse in the Quran.

Howard had also allegedly touched on the 3R (religion, royal, race) matter.

Perak Pas Youth Council chief also described Howard as rude and attempted to provoke the Muslim community by claiming that the DAP member distorted the meaning of verse 59 from Surah An-Nisa.
