SHAH ALAM - A Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) should be established promptly for the sake of legal clarity and national reputation after the discharge not amounting to acquittal (DNAA) granted to Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Zahid Hamidi.

Calling for the establishment of an RCI, Putra president Datuk Dr Ibrahim Ali said it will help to ascertain the validity and truth regarding the DNAA from a legal perspective in all aspects without leaving any room for doubt.

“The establishment of an RCI is an urgent necessity because the issue of DNAA involving Zahid has become a national issue and has received highly negative global news coverage, which is very embarrassing for the country,” he said in a statement today.

He added that the controversy surrounding the issue of Zahid’s DNAA has not subsided.

“From coffee shops, coffee houses, and everywhere, including the commotion in the Dewan Rakyat three days ago during Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's explanation, it has become increasingly confusing.

"Some outright reject Anwar’s explanation, while others, especially staunch supporters of Pakatan Harapan (PH), accept it,” he said.

Ibrahim added that various forums have also been organised, including those on social media, with various panellists, including lawyers and politicians.

“However, there is still no conclusion, like thunder rumbling without rain. This means that there is no definitive answer that cannot be questioned further, and all parties must accept it with an open heart.

“The findings of the RCI investigation will determine the truth and undoubtedly restore the integrity of the Attorney General's office, the Judiciary, and the Madani government, especially Anwar.

“Surely the world will once again respect Malaysia as a dignified nation, one that walks the talk, and the people will accept it with an open heart,” he expressed.

He added that the RCI should be chaired by a former chief justice who is seen as having integrity, and the RCI members should be professionals, including one from outside the country.

“PUTRA hopes that Anwar and the government will consider and establish this RCI proposal promptly. May this DNAA issue be satisfactorily resolved.

“PUTRA is a party that upholds integrity, morality, and genuinely upholds the law and the constitution.

“PUTRA's doctrine is the genuine interest of the nation and its people, and its guidance is from Allah. There is no hypocrisy,” he said.
