SHAH ALAM - Domestic Trade and Consumer Deputy Minister, Fuziah Salleh has affirmed that the viral video of her purchasing groceries has been taken out of context.
She revealed that the video in question is a recording from last July when she visited a supermarket in Langkawi, Kedah.
"That is an old recording when we were addressing the issue of having RM200 and not being able to purchase many necessities.
"So the video was reposted after the Domestic Trade and Consumer Ministry (KPDN) wanted to carry out a Charity Rice Sale.
"I believe there is a mastermind behind it, and it may be politically motivated," she told Sinar on Wednesday.
In the viral video, Fuziah made purchases of basic necessities at a supermarket for less than RM200.
Among the daily necessities purchased were biscuits, beverage powder, instant noodles, canned sardines, flour, oil, milk, 10 kilograms of rice, onions, and chicken.
Fuziah explained that all these items only cost RM136.30.
Furthermore, she said that the context of the video at that time had been misinterpreted, leading many to think it referred to the current situation.
Therefore, Fuziah hopes that the public can understand and not be confused about the viral video, as it does refer to the current situation.
