There’s no denying that one of Malaysia’s favourite pastimes is leisurely strolling around shopping malls! But no outing is complete without indulging in some good food. Pavilion KL, which has just turned 15, is home to a plethora of restaurants and cafes that locals and tourists can’t get enough of. There’s always something new to try.
Here are some Muslim-friendly eateries that you can enjoy with friends and family.
Al-Halabi
Located on the seventh floor of the mall, this restaurant offers an array of Arabic staples and gourmet food. Step inside the eatery and you will be welcomed with an elegant interior that exudes Middle East vibes. Enjoy the delectable dishes with a loved one, or reserve an entire section for friends and family. Enjoy the briyani lamb with meat so tender it falls off the bone, or you could opt for Western dishes like its scrumptious heart-shaped pizza.
Oppadak
A few steps away from Al-Halabi is Oppadak, a restaurant that will transport you to South Korea. In contrast to the usual Korean fried chicken, their menu promises a healthier take on Korean favourites. According to its website, Oppadak is a short variation for “Oven eh Bbajeen Chicken” which means chicken that fell in the oven, therefore - no deep frying! Have a go at their baked or roasted chicken, or slurp some good ol’ ramen, or dive into its top seller item - the creamy chicken bowl, then finish it off with some cooling mango bingsu. Yum!
YuYan
Nothing like a private tea-tasting experience to help you relax on a sunny or rainy afternoon. YuYan is a newly opened tea house that offers a live demonstration of how authentic teas are meant to be boiled and consumed. Enter the tea house and you’ll find that it’s divided into several sections to cater to private tea-tasting sessions. As you sip through White Tea or Oolong tea, the tea maker will share his nuggets of knowledge on the origins of the tea and why it should be treated with much respect.
Laem Charoen
One of the most loved cuisines in Malaysia would be Thai cuisine. There is a new Thai joint called Laem Charoen Thai Seafood, which recently opened its doors at Pavilion KL. Bringing the true essence of Thai food, the menu offers exceptional culinary offerings. The eatery is already a well-known establishment in Thailand, so there’s no doubt about its quality.
There are many standout dishes but two that deserve a special spotlight would be its Deep-Fried Sea Bass with Fish Sauce. The fried-to-perfection fish exudes a crispy outer skin and a moist, flaky interior which is simply divine when paired with its tantalising, hot, and spicy Tom Yum Goong and steaming white rice. Chef’s kiss!
Madam Croffle
Madam Croffle is no stranger to foodies who can’t get enough of the popular croissant-waffle hybrid treats! The Korean-owned dessert brand founded in Malaysia typically offers sweet toppings, however, the owner Nadia Han has added a savoury option too. You can choose toppings such as tuna, egg mayo, and more.

It’s mooncake season! Come to Pavilion KL and you’ll be greeted with a pop-up fair featuring 25 brands from 5-star hotels, and renowned mooncake vendors. If you’re a durian lover, there are plenty of durian mooncakes too, so don't miss out!
