Intoxicated and drug-addicted man attacks police vehicle with a machete
BEAUFORT - A man who was intoxicated and addicted to drugs was apprehended by the police after going on a rampage and attempting to attack a police vehicle with a machete in an incident in Kampung Kiambor, Kuala Penyu, here yesterday.
In the incident, which occurred at about 12.15am, a team of members from the Crime Prevention Patrol Unit of the Kuala Penyu Police Station and the Patrol Car Unit (MPV) of the Beaufort District Police Headquarters received information about a 40-year-old man causing a commotion in the village.
Beaufort District Police Chief Deputy Superintendent Ismail Abdullah said a successful arrest was made by a police team from the Criminal Investigation Division of the Beaufort District Police Headquarters upon receiving the report.
"During the incident, the individual suddenly emerged from a bushy area and attempted to attack a Royal Malaysia Police (RMP) vehicle using a machete before fleeing.
"The suspect was subsequently apprehended, but during the arrest, he did not cooperate and held both a machete and a meat cleaver in his hands," he said when contacted by Sinar today.
Furthermore, he stated that the suspect was remanded for four days beginning today for further investigation under Sections 506, 186, and 427 of the Penal Code.
"The suspect was arrested for criminal intimidation, obstructing police officers from performing their duties, and damaging two RMP vehicles using a machete.
"Initial investigations suggest that the reason for the suspect's rampage is suspected intoxication and drug addiction," he said.
