Pelangai by-election: Follow Johor voters reject politics of hate
ALOR SETAR - Voters in the Pelangai State Legislative Assembly are hoped to follow Johor voters who choose to maintain the unity government for political stability.
Amanah deputy president Datuk Mahfuz Omar said it also showed that voters in the Pulai parliamentary and Simpang Jeram state by-elections in Johor abided by the the decree of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, who previously proposed the formation of the unity government.
He said the same steps should be taken by Pelangai voters in defending the unity government, whether at the state or federal level, as per the decree of His Majesty.
"I believe that the voters in Pelangai will support the decree of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, who is also the Sultan of Pahang, in defending the unity government in the state, including the federation as ordered by His Majesty when the country is facing political crisis.
"The people of Johor have proven that they maintained a culture of consensus that is the basis for the formation of the Johor nation. This means that there is no place for politics of hatred and hostility in Johor.
"The same thing should happen in the Pelangai, even though there have been attempts by opposition parties to foster a culture of hatred and hostility, do not be deceived by such campaigns," he said.
Furthermore, he said the people should rise up to fight against politics of hatred and hostility cultivated by certain political parties.
"I hope that voters will choose peaceful politics and maintain unity and the unity of the people of various races and religions in this country and maintain the existing political stability," he said.
The Election Commission (EC) has set Oct 7 for polling day, Sept 23 for nomination day and Oct 3 for early voting.
The Pelangai state seat was declared vacant following the death of its incumbent Datuk Seri Johari Harun, 53, in a plane crash in Shah Alam, Selangor, on Aug 17.
