‘Save Malaysia’ rally did not comply with Peaceful Assembly Act - KL cops
KUALA LUMPUR - Police will call any individual to investigate the 'Save Malaysia' rally which has been classified as non-compliant after it was held, here, today.
City police chief Datuk Allaudeen Abdul Majid said the assembly began at Masjid Jamek Kampung Baru at about 1.15pm and ended at 3.30pm in front of Sogo shopping centre and 16 individuals gave speeches.
He said police have taken action in facilitating the gathering to ensure no untoward incidents occurred.
“We are guided by the law which is the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 which outlined the matter that must be complied with by the police and organisers, especially Sections 9, 10 and 11.
“Section 9 states that organisers must give information and it was set in the act,” he said in a press conference at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters (IPD), today.
In the application form, he said the organiser must receive approval from the owner of the premises, adding that the police shouldered a big responsibility and considered the views of property owners in the area before the event was being held.
Allaudeen said police have a major responsibility to give feedback and receive the views of residents and asset owners before the programme was being implemented.
“The notification is in accordance with the act, not simply an ordinary letter.
“The assembly did not comply with the act and we need to look at the next course of action," he said.
He added that around 800 to 850 individuals participated in the rally.
“We will call on anyone to assist in the investigations and it was not subjected to only the 16 individuals who gave a speech in the assembly.
“Police received one report during the assembly and it would be declassified after thorough observation,” he said.
