Unborn child survives fatal road crash

KEMAMAN - An unborn child carried by Norhafizah Sazwa Harun, 38, who is seven months pregnant survives a fatal road crash as a result of being hit by a sand truck at Kilometer 154, Jalan Jerangau-Jabor, near Simpang 4, Jalan Mak Lagam-Cheneh yesterday.
The victim's eldest sister Norhidayah Salmi Harun, 42, said that her sister's unborn child's heart stopped for a moment during an examination by a doctor at the hospital at 10pm.
"Alhamdulillah... thank God that the unborn child is safe.
"In the accident, my sister who was driving the car sustained injuries on her stomach.
"I am grateful that my sister and her child are doing good even though this is her biggest test as she had lost her husband and two children in the crash," she told Sinar Harian today.
Yesterday, three family members died while two others were injured as the vehicle they were riding in was hit by a sand truck at Kilometer 154, Jalan Jerangau-Jabor, near Simpang 4, Jalan Mak Lagam-Cheneh.
Kemaman district police chief Superintendent Hanyan Ramlan said that the deceased were identified as Ammir Hussein Mohamad, 38, and his two sons Ammzar Husszair Al Hussein, four, and Ammzar Hussnayan Al Hussein, one.
He said Ammir's wife Norhafizah who is pregnant, suffered injuries on her abdomen while their adopted son Ammzar Hussniah Ammir Hussein Abdul Azim, eight, was still unconscious and currently being treated at Kemaman Hospital.
Commenting further, Norhidayah said that her sister was still shocked and traumatised by the tragedy.
"She is still thinking of her late kids because usually in the morning, her four-year-old would always surprise her by telling her 'I have brushed my teeth' and all.
"Daily routines and things like that still make my sister reminisce about her late son," she said.
Norhidayah shared that she had accepted God's will even though it had deeply impacted her family, especially her sister who just lost her husband and two children.
"I pray for the best and strength for my sister. This is a test for our family," she said while holding back tears.
