Father, two sons killed as car hit by sand truck
NURFARDLINA IZZATI MOKTARKEMAMAN – Three of a family died while two others were injured after their vehicle was hit by a sand truck at Kilometer 154, Jalan Jerangau-Jabor near Simpang 4, Jalan Mak Lagam-Cheneh yesterday.
Kemaman district police chief Superintendent Hanyan Ramlan said the deceased were identified as Ammir Hussein Mohamad, 38, and his two sons, Ammzar Husszair Al Hussein, four, and Ammzar Hussnayan Al Hussein, one.
He said Ammir's wife Norhafizah Sazwa Harun, 38, who is pregnant, suffered injuries on her abdomen while their adopted son Ammzar Hussniah Ammir Hussein Abdul Azim, eight, was still unconscious and currently being treated at Kemaman Hospital.
"In the accident at about 2pm, Norhafizah Sazwa who was driving the car with four of her family members were on their way from their home to Cheneh to deliver soap for sale.
"Arriving at the scene of the accident, a Nissan sand truck driven by a 44-year-old man from Mak Lagam towards Ladang Perwira, Cheneh suddenly exited a left junction due to brake failure and rammed the vehicle the family was in," he said in a statement today.
Hanyan said that Ammir died at the scene due to severe head injuries while his two children succumbed from their injuries while receiving treatment at Kemaman Hospital.
He said the lorry driver did not sustain any injuries. A urine screening test on the driver revealed that he was free of any drug use and had no previous criminal record.
"The case is investigated according to Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," he explained.
Meanwhile, Ammir and his two sons' remains were buried in a single grave at Kampung Jabur Kubur Islamic Cemetery at about 1.30am today.
Prior to that, the three bodies had been prayed for at Surau Taman Dato, Chukai at about 12.15am after the post-mortem process had been completed.
