First World Islamic Tourism Awards launched today

SUBANG JAYA - The World Islamic Tourism Awards (Wita) 2023, a prestigious event to recognise the contributions of industry players who raised the Islamic Tourism Industry to an international level was launched today.

A total of 55 awards were given to those who have contributed to the success of the industry.

Wita organising chairman Datuk Noor Zaleha Baharudin said the objective of the awards was to acknowledge and celebrate the excellence of products and services rendered by Islamic Tourism Heroes and across all sectors of travel and tourism hospitality.

"The recipients of the awards have been carefully selected by adhering to the standard compliance set by the Wita selecting panel whom each have more than 30 years of experience in the tourism industry.

"This first Wita will definitely inspire global Islamic tourism players to work harder for their efforts to be highly recognised in next year’s Wita and the years to come.

"I congratulate the Islamic Tourism Heroes who been honoured in receiving this most prestigious award," she said in her speech during the event at Sunway Resort Hotel, here, tonight.

The event was organised by the Malaysian Tourism Agency Association (MATA).

Meanwhile, its president Datuk Dr Mohd Khalid Harun expressed gratitude to his team for making the event happen.

"I would like to express my gratitude to all those who contributed to making this event happen.

"I also would like to congratulate all the awards recipients as well," he said.

During the event, former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad who attended as the guest of honour received the Global Islamic Leader Award.
