Over 20,000 people in Japan's Nagasaki advised to evacuate due to heavy rain
TOKYO - Over 22,500 people in the Japanese prefecture of Nagasaki have been advised to evacuate due to torrential rains, reported Sputnik, quoting the NHK broadcaster on Friday.
The threat to the city of Sasebo located in the prefecture has been estimated at the fourth level of emergency out of five, the broadcaster said. The fourth level means it is necessary to evacuate to safety while the possibility to do so remains.
On Wednesday, the media reported that the Japanese Meteorological Agency warned of unstable atmospheric conditions in southwestern Japan, which later caused downpours accompanied by thunder. Similar weather conditions were later observed in the country's northern and northeastern regions.
The agency has asked people to remain on high alert for landslides, flooding in low-lying areas, swollen rivers, lightning strikes and sudden gusts of wind. - BERNAMA-SPUTNIK
