JOHOR BAHRU - Umno has criticised the actions of the Bar Council who questioned the Attorney-General's (AG) decision on Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's case after obtaining the court's approval to discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) from all charges.

Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed said the actions of the Bar Council gave a negative image to the public that any individual could question the decision of the AG and judges in court.

He claimed the Bar Council were seen as biased in making statements especially when it involved Umno and even BN leaderships.

“The Bar Council criticised the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) releasing Zahid and supposedly the nation’s judicial institutions are tainted from the case.

“I want to ask Boneka Bisu in the Bar Council, where was your voice when the AGC withdrew the charges and the court released and acquitted former DAP secretary-general Guan Eng in the corruption case involving the purchase of a bungalow in 2018?

“But that’s the attitude of the Bar Council since then because are led and composed by a large portion of individuals who are untrustworthy, hypocritical and anti-Umno,” he said in a statement on Thursday.

Nur Jazlan who is the Pulai Umno division chief said the Bar Council should act fairly in allv their statements regardless of the case so their integrity would not be questioned by the public.

He explained the Bar Council’s attitude to always issuing prejudicial statements when cases involving Umno leaders indirectly illustrates they have their own agenda and that they were not acting professionally.

“I don’t see one word or statement from the Bar Council that disputes the actions of the AGC when Tommy Thomas became AG whereas many cases involving PH leadership have either been dropped or released and acquitted.

“Not a single individual at the time questioned the actions of the public prosecutor withdrawing the charges and not a single individual was mad at Tommy Thomas who was appointed by the PH government and Mahathir.

“There was no blaming the legal system which was being controlled by ghostly hands,” he said.
