Six-year-old abuse victim still being treated, monitored - Social Welfare Department
SYAMILAH ZULKIFLIJEMPOL - The Negeri Sembilan Social Welfare Department (JKM) is monitoring a six-year-old boy rescued by the police after being suspected of abuse by his biological father and stepmother since March.
Negeri Sembilan JKM director Rosnah Sardi said that the victim is still being treated at Tuanku Ampuan Najihah Hospital, Kuala Pilah.
"The victim's health condition is good, but he is still being treated and monitored. His emotional condition is also improving.
"The victim's paternal grandmother is accompanying him in the ward and JKM will monitor his condition from time to time," she said when contacted by Sinar Harian today.
In regard to the victim's half-siblings, Rosnah said that those aged four, three as well as one-year-and-three-months were under the care of their maternal grandmother in Jempol.
She added that they were all healthy and showed no signs of abuse.
Sinar Harian previously reported that the victim's biological father and stepmother were arrested after being suspected of abusing him in Bahau, Jempol last Tuesday.
The incident came to light after the victim, the eldest of four siblings, had run away from his home after being unable to tolerate his guardian's treatment.
Jempol District Police Chief, Superintendent Hoo Chang Hook said that he had received the information about the incident at about 2.30pm before the child was rescued by the police.
"There were wounds on the victim's body which was then taken to Jempol Hospital for further treatment.
"Preliminary investigation found that the victim had been abused since last March up until now. The victim had been beaten by her stepmother and biological father using hands, wooden spoons, kicked and caned," he said.
