'One hand against corruption, the other defends it' - Syed Saddiq

KUALA LUMPUR - Muar MP Syed Saddiq describes the government of today as hypocritical following their actions of not fighting against corruption.

He said opposition MPs were labelled as having 'bad intentions' towards the government if they brought up the issue of Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's (BN-Bagan Datuk) release.

"The reality is that this is the biggest national lie, previously they stated they were against corruption, not dismissing (corruption) cases, imprison kleptocrats, (but) today they are freed.

"One hand is against corruption, the other defends it. If we (MPs) in this hall were silenced, unable to critic the government without being criticised as evil, how would we discuss the public's issues.

"In 2015, 70 MPs in this hall on the opposition bloc wanted to discuss the question of the judge in court, previously it was the 1MDB decision, attacks on the attorney-general, they were all involved.

"Now when in the position of government, it's hypocritical," he told the Dewan Rakyat session on Tuesday.

He said such when interrupting Sim Tze Tzin (PH-Bayan Baru) asking Datuk Awang Hashim (PN-Pendang) to withdraw the accusations of the 'lying government' as he was not allowed to raise the opposition's motions.

Syed Saddiq slammed Tze Tzim by explaning the meeting rules he had brought up.

"Rule 36 (6) states any member is not allowed to create any malicious allegations against any other members.

"We are not directing criticisms at one member, but at the government as a whole," he said
