KUALA LUMPUR - Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki has revealed that many who have loans with Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) have asked him to write off their debts.

Unable to fulfill such requests, the Mara Chairman insisted he could only help to restructure the debt and the repayment schedule.

Asyraf Wajdi said it is not his right to write off the debts because Mara's money is the people's money.

"Many come to see me to ask for Mara's debt to be written off. I'm sorry!

"To restructure the debt and the repayment schedule is fine. The rest is not my right because Mara's money is the people's money," he said in a message uploaded on his personal Facebook account, on Tuesday.

On March 17, Asyraf Wajdi said borrowers who were really facing difficulties in repaying Mara loans are advised to talk to the relevant agency.

He said, many individuals complained to him after being contacted by Mara or a lawyer to make loan repayments.
