JOHOR BAHRU - The Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) in Johor has aligned with the central leadership's decision to withdraw support for the unity government.

Johor Muda chairman Azrol Rahani said that Muda firmly upholds the principles of the rule of law and some recent decisions made by the unity government contradict these principles and values.

He cited the Attorney-General's decision to drop 47 charges against Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi as an example.

"This goes against the principles of a clean government that aims to combat corruption," he said.

Azrol said that Muda believes that the country's legal institutions have been compromised by the unity government, which seems to have normalised the culture of corruption.

He added that the current government has largely ignored the lack of reforms and pre-election promises.

"Therefore, even though the decision is difficult, Johor Muda wants to uphold principled politics, which are the fundamental pillars of Muda," he said.

On Sunday, Muda announced its intention to act as the third force in opposition, thereby withdrawing support for the unity government.
