By-election: Suhaizan secures Pulai seat for PH

JOHOR BAHRU - Unity government candidate Suhaizan Kaiat wins the Pulai Parliamentary seat with a majority of 18,641 votes.

The Johor Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) deputy chairman obtained 48,283 votes from 298 ballot boxes, defeating his two competitors.

Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate Zulkifli Jaafar obtained 28,642 votes, while Independent candidate Samsudin Mohamad Fauzi received 528 votes.

The official results were announced by the Election Commission's returning officer for the Pulai Parliament P161 by-election Miswan Yunus.

Suhaizan, who is the former Speaker of the State Legislative Assembly, returned to defend the Pulai parliamentary seat previously held by the late Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub since 2018.

The Election Commission (EC) announced the percentage of voters who went out to fulfill their responsibilities in the Pulai Parliamentary by-election was at 46.8 per cent as of 6pm.

The Pulai Parliamentary and Simpang Jeram State Assembly by-elections were held following the death of its incumbent Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub who is also the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister on July 23.

In the 15th General Election (GE15) November last year, Salahuddin won the seat with a majority of 33,174 votes in a three-cornered fight with BN and Perikatan Nasional (PN).
