Raja Muda Selangor conquers Mount Kilimanjaro
SHAH ALAM – Raja Muda Selangor, Tengku Amir Shah successfully conquered the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania yesterday, completing his climbing mission.
The Selangor Royal Office, in its statement announced that Tengku Amir initiated the expedition intending to raise funds to establish a care centre for children facing hearing and speech difficulties at the Raja Tun Uda Library in Shah Alam.
His ascent to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, which reaches a height of 5,895 meters, was accompanied by his cousin, Engku Panglima Setia Diraja Datuk Syed Haizam Jamalullail, his brother-in-law, Datuk Setia Aubry Rahim Mennesson, Palace dignitary Tengku Ezrique Ezzuddean, and his friend, Keong Yeen Keoh.
The statement explained that the fundraising effort through the expedition, which began on Aug 31 was driven by the high costs of treatment faced by families of children with hearing and speech issues.
"This includes the daughter of Datuk Syed Haizam, who has been suffering from the same issue since the age of three," the statement said on its official Facebook page yesterday.
In 2012, a similar expedition involving the ascent of Mount Kinabalu in Sabah was undertaken by Tengku Amir, along with 23 children with disabilities (OKU) from Cheshire Home.
