SHAH ALAM - Asrama Yayasan Selangor Sabak Bernam brings back two champion trophies after winning both lower and upper levels at the Crossword Puzzles Challenge at Karnival Pendidikan Sinar Bestari, here, today.

The challenge consisted of three rounds of tight competition within 26 schools contesting at lower and upper levels.

Even though the participants are from the secondary school level, the questions were set at a high-level of general knowledge, including local and international related questions.

However, participants from Asrama Yayasan Selangor Sabak Bernam, namely Muhammad Umar Hazran Abdul Hamid, Mohamad Hadif Uzair, and Mohammad Aiman Izwan managed to put up a tough fight and won the golden cup in the upper level.

Meanwhile, Muhammad Imran Hakimi Maskor, Mohammad Syamir Zur Umair Saiful Bahri and Muhammad Nabil Mat Isa won first place in the lower level.

"We didn't expect to win first place, but we tried our best and it came out good.

'The first level was hard, but the next level onwards was easy and we managed to do it. Thanks to our teachers who trained us despite last-minute arrangements, we hope to have more events like this," the students told Sinar Daily.

Speaking to their teachers, Asrama Yayasan Selangor Sabak Bernam Executive Academic Officer of Muhammad Izzat Afiq Mohamad Zam Zam said he was proud of his students who managed to grab the first place.

"We only trained for three days, I told my students to try their best and enjoy the competition process.

"Programmes like this help the students to improve their knowledge about the country, they can also share the information with other students. Undoubtedly, programmes like this improve their English language as well.

"The questions are good, the students have to sharpen their knowledge. They must broaden their knowledge since they are the future Malaysia and leaders," he said.

Commenting further, Yayasan Selangor Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Eddie Ahmad Khodzali who is also the sponsor for the competition, lauded the student's eagerness and participation in the competition.

"This competition is good and interesting, it looks lively in terms of participation and the students were seen having a lot of fun and are eager to compete.

"Maybe in the future, we can give a theme of the competition so that students will put an effort to find the information and knowledge," he said.

Therefore, he urged all students to sharpen their general knowledge as it might help them in education and general knowledge wise.

"The questions presented were good, it pushed the students to explore more on the general knowledge.

"Not only reading and knowing what they want but they must be aware of all kinds of knowledge, especially regarding current world development.

"If students do not read much or do not keep up with current developments, it will be difficult to answer," he said.
