One dead, two injured after four-wheel drive crashes into lorry
TANJUNG MALIM - A man died after his four-wheel drive vehicle crashed into a lorry at Kilometre 383.1 of the North-South Expressway near the entry point of the Behrang rest stop here today.
The accident around 4.05am caused the Mitsubishi Triton driver Muhamad Azwan Roslan, 29, to be stuck and was confirmed dead at the scene.
Muallim district police chief Superintendent Mohd Hasni Mohd Nasir said the the crash caused the vehicle that the victim and two friends were in to crash with a lorry carrying motorcycles.
"The accident occurred while the vehicle was driving from Kuala Lumpur to Ipoh.
"During the incident, the vehicle had crashed into the back of a parked lorry at the side of the road," he said.
He said the 34-year-old front passenger suffered a broken left arm while the rear 29-year-old passenger suffered head injuries as well as broken ribs.
Mohd Hasni added the victim and front passenger who were stuck had successfully been extracted by firemen.
"The victim's body was sent to the Slim River Hospital for an autopsy while the other two who were saved are receiving treatment in the same hospital.
"Initial investigations found the four-wheel drive driver had fallen asleep and crashed into the lorry," he said.
Investigations were carried out under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
