There is no end in battle against corruption - Azam Baki
SEPANG - The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) continues to actively prevent and combat corruption despite going through various challenging evolutions during its more than five decades of establishment.
Its chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said there was no end to the battle and the anti-graft agency will continue with its agenda for a Malaysia that is free from corruption.
"MACC as an agency responsible in preventing and investigating any form of corruption and abuse of power and these are its main goal and responsibility as stated in the MACC Act 2009.
"MACC will continue to stay committed in its efforts to prevent and combat corruption and the efforts were implemented with the support of other parties," he said.
He said this during the Anti-Corruption Research Conference, Second Edition 2023 at the Movenpick Convention Centre here, yesterday.
During the conference themed 'Combating Corruption Together: No Endpoint' a total of 10 research papers were tabled.
It was a platform for policy discussion and industry players to assess, plan and take appropriate actions to help create a civil society free of corruption.
The organisation of the conference was a continuation of the same programme held last March.
Meanwhile, the public was urged to provide any information on corruption and misuse of power to the MACC to curb the acts from spreading.
Pahang Rasuah Busters Supreme Council member Ali Imran Hassan said the cooperation of the public was important in combating corruption.
He said information regarding corruption must be given regardless of the individual's rank in an organisation.
"The identity of the informant must be protected for the sake of their safety from threats," he said when contacted by Sinar.
He was responding to media reports on Monday regarding the Terengganu MACC arresting a senior aide suspected of receiving a vehicle in exchange for securing a supply work worth RM230,000.
MACC sources stated the company owner was arrested to assist in a bribery case in the form of a vehicle given valued at RM90,000.
Ali said corruption was similar to cancer that occured at all levels of society regardless of rank and position.
"The public must avoid being involved with corruption in giving or receiving it.
"It would start well, but trust me, when it's exposed, it will destroy both sides.
"Think about yourself, family, religion and race before getting involved in such acts," he said.
