By-election: Suhaizan proposes more Rahmah Sales locations
JOHOR BAHRU - The Rahmah Sales initiative can be strengthened by having more locations to conduct the programme, especially in densely populated areas, said Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate in the Pulai by-election Suhaizan Kaiat.
Suhaizan said he would propose this matter to the Unity Government as an effort to help the people deal with cost of living issues.
Suhaizan, who was political secretary to the late Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub, said this was among his wishes and vision to continue with Salahuddin's legacy if he was elected as the Member of Parliament for Pulai.
"We see that improvements can be made, such as increasing the types of products sold under the Rahmah Sales to include items other than basic necessities," he told reporters at a walkabout at the Rahmah Sales programme in the Perling People's Housing Project (PPR) along Jalan Rawa here today.
"The initial initiative of Rahmah Sales involves holding it in one location in each state constituency across the country, so we propose to add locations in each (state) constituency,” he said.
The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry’s plan is to implement the Rahmah Sales twice a month in all 640 state constituencies nationwide, beginning in August and targeting 6,400 programme locations.
Touching on the issue of youth welfare in the Pulai constituency, Suhaizan said he is determined to provide more recreational and sports facilities to encourage healthy activities among this group.
"For example, in Kempas, among the issues raised by the youth is the need for a soccer field and futsal court.
"Apart from this, the issue of job opportunities has also been raised a lot and these are issues that need to be resolved to give youths in Pulai a better future," he said.
Suhaizan is in a three-cornered fight with Perikatan Nasional’s Zulkifli Jaafar and independent candidate Samsudin Mohamad Fauzi.
The Pulai parliamentary and Simpang Jeram state seats fell vacant after the death of Amanah deputy president Salahuddin on July 23.
Polling for both by-elections is on Saturday. - BERNAMA
