'Don't push DAP too hard, just a little will do' - Ahmad Fadhli
SHAH ALAM - Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed has been advised not to push DAP too hard on the statement issued by the party's secretary-general regarding the court's decision on Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Pas Youth Chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari said there is a difference between Zahid's case and that of DAP Chairman Lim Guan Eng.
He said the case involving the Umno president has reached a prima facie stage that is different from Guan Eng's case.
"The situation is different; DAP has far more seats compared to Umno in the current government, so they have the right to question Umno; Umno should not question them.
"This was emphasised by the Umno president himself when he rejected Nur Jazlan's proposal for DAP to drop the slogan of Malaysian Malaysia and a secular state," he said in a statement today.
He pointed out that the ongoing Pulai parliamentary by-election is being contested by a Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate, in which DAP is a key component, while Umno is not contesting.
"So what will be affected is the support for PH; that's why DAP should be concerned.
"Datuk Nur Jazlan, don't push DAP too hard; 'little' is enough; just don't be too silent.
"However, both cases are problematic," said the Pasir Mas MP.
Today, Nur Jazlan said DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke should not have made an open statement about the decision of the Kuala Lumpur High Court to release without acquittal (DNAA) 47 cases involving Zahid, including seeking an explanation from the Attorney-General about the case.
He stressed that DAP leaders should be fair to Zahid because, in 2018, when the case involving former DAP deputy secretary-general Lim Guan Eng had charges dropped at the request of the then Attorney-General (AG), Anthony did not seek an explanation from Tommy Thomas.
Meanwhile, yesterday, Loke stated that the party respects the process and decision of the court, but in the interest of justice and accountability, open explanations to the public regarding the factors that led to the Kuala Lumpur High Court's decision to release Zahid's case without acquittal need to be made.
He said DAP takes note of the critical views of various parties and the public on the Kuala Lumpur High Court's decision to release without acquittal 47 cases involving Zahid.
Loke said the explanation is important to ensure public and international confidence in the country's legal system is maintained.
