KUALA NERUS - A total of 8,000 cases of identification card (MyKad) loss are recorded throughout the country each year, said the National Registration Department (NRD) Director-General Zamri Misman.

Zamri said this number accounts for four percent of the 200,000 MyKad registrations issued by the NRD each year.

"200,000 MyKads are issued annually, and four percent involve loss cases.

"Reasons given for these losses include misplacing the MyKad.

"Sometimes, people go on vacation and forget their MyKads and so on," he told reporters after the Menyemai Kasih Rakyat (Mekar) programme in Kampung Telaga Daing, today.

Also present was the Terengganu NRD Director Mohamad Nasir Kareem.

Zamri further said that members of the public who lose their MyKad for the third time could be fined up to RM1,000.

"Take care of your MyKad as best as you can, and if it is lost, report it to the police immediately.
