SEPANG - The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) continues its efforts to prevent and combat corruption, despite facing numerous challenges throughout its more than five decades of existence.

Its Chief Commissioner, Tan Sri Azam Baki, stated that this ongoing struggle has no endpoint and that making Malaysia free from corruption remains one of its firm commitments and goals.

"As an agency responsible for preventing and investigating any form of corruption and abuse of power, promoting integrity, and educating public officials and the public about corruption, this is the primary goal and responsibility of the MACC, as stipulated in the MACC Act 2009.

"The MACC will remain committed to preventing and fighting corruption, and it is certain that this effort cannot be carried out alone without the support and assistance of all parties," he said at the 2nd National Governance, Integrity, and Anti-Corruption Research Conference 2023 held at the Movenpick Convention Centre here today.

The conference, which began today with the theme "Combating Corruption Together: No Endpoint," will feature the presentation of 10 research papers. It is organised in collaboration with public and private higher education institutions, including Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), and Multimedia University (MMU).

This conference serves as a platform for policymakers and industry players to assess, plan, and take appropriate action to help create a corruption-free civil society. It also serves as a platform for sharing research findings in the context of governance, integrity, and anti-corruption. The conference discusses current issues related to corruption risks, integrity violations, and governance weaknesses that can be improved.

The organisation of this conference is a continuation of the first National Governance, Integrity, and Anti-Corruption Research Conference held at the Movenpick Convention Centre KLIA Sepang on March 23 and 24 last year. Azam further commented that the conference's theme aligns with the fourth main strategic thrust under the framework of Malaysia Madani, which is "Establishing Trustworthy Administration.

" Therefore, he emphasised that the research findings and resolutions presented at this conference are expected to broaden perspectives and provide the best formula for all conference participants to strategize towards the best governance that is transparent, efficient, and trustworthy.

"Hence, I hope that the results of this conference can carefully examine the corruption risks in the identified sectors so that they become significant inputs for policy improvements being carried out by their respective ministries, departments, and agencies," he concluded."
