Man charged with murdering lover's one-year-old son

BUTTERWORTH - A man was charged at the Magistrate's Court here on charges of murdering a one-year-old baby last month.
S Nagendren, 34, simply nodded in response to the charges read out by Magistrate Nur Fatin Mohd Farid.
However, no confession was recorded from the accused because the murder case falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
According to the charges, the suspect is accused of killing one-year-old Muhamad Hayder Mukhriz Abdul Fatah, causing his death between Aug 23 and Aug 26 at an apartment in Ampang Jajar, Butterworth.
The prosecution is carried out under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which provides for the death penalty if convicted.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Asma' 'Amira Shahidani conducted the prosecution, while the accused was not represented.
The court scheduled March 6, 2024, as the date for re-mention of the case to await chemical and post-mortem reports.
In a previous report by Sinar, a 16-year-old mother, along with eight other individuals, was arrested for their involvement in the abuse of a one-year-old baby boy, which resulted in his death.
Seberang Perai Tengah district police chief Assistant Commissioner Tan Cheng San disclosed that all the suspects, aged between 16 and 48, were locals.
