SHAH ALAM- Our nation has been left with a profound sense of loss, as we bid a heart-wrenching farewell to a truly compassionate soul who dedicated her entire life to addressing the pressing issues of homelessness and women's rights in Malaysia.

In our midst, we mourn the passing of a remarkable individual Datuk Munirah Abdul Hamid who died at the age of 70, leaving behind a legacy that has etched itself deeply into the fabric of our society.

For over five decades, Munirah embarked on an unwavering journey of advocacy, a journey that would forever change the lives of those she touched.

With every step she took, she chipped away at the barriers faced by the homeless and lent a guiding hand to empower women in need.

Munirah was more than just a name; it was a beacon of hope for the destitute souls inhabiting the streets of Kuala Lumpur.

Her selflessness knew no bounds as she traversed almost every street, nourishing the homeless with the warmth of her heart and the sustenance of her kindness.

Pertiwi Soup Kitchen, an embodiment of her love for humanity, emerged as a charitable organization in 2010, but her association with the Islamic Women's Action Organisation (Pertiwi) had already begun back in 1957.

Her journey was one of unceasing dedication, her life's purpose defined by her tireless commitment to the betterment of society.

Munirah's contributions transcended boundaries, touching the lives of individuals from all walks of life.

Her soup kitchens, scattered across cities, became sanctuaries for those who hungered not just for food, but for a glimmer of hope and a taste of dignity.

Even during the dark days of the Covid-19 pandemic, Munirah continued her noble mission, placing the welfare of the homeless at the forefront of her concerns.

Her compassion knew no limits, even in the face of adversity.

In the early hours of Sept 4, at her home in Bangsar, Munirah took her final breath, leaving a void in our hearts that can never truly be filled.

The news of her passing, delivered by AEON Consortium CEO Raja Teh Maimunah Raja Abdul Aziz through the official Pertiwi Soup Kitchen volunteer program's Facebook page, sent shockwaves through our nation.

Munirah may no longer be among us, but her legacy is an eternal flame that will continue to inspire generations to come.

Her unwavering dedication to the marginalized and her boundless love for humanity have left an indelible mark on our souls, a reminder that compassion and selflessness can change the world.
