Man 'sells' sister-in-law to pay off debt
HISYAMUDDIN AYUBKUALA LUMPUR - Wanting to pay off a debt is believed to be the reason why a man was willing to 'sell' his sister-in-law to suspects of gang rape in Wangsa Maju last Aug 30.
Wangsa Maju district police chief superintendent Ashari Abu Samah said that through the interrogation of the victim's brother-in-law, who was arrested last Saturday, the police confirmed that the suspect had been planning the heinous crime.
He said that the suspect had told the victim not to lock the house door on the day of the incident.
"The victim and brother-in-law live in the same house in Block D13, Section 2 Wangsa Maju.
"The victim's brother-in-law allegedly owed money to one of the suspects, who are still at large.
"However, no confession of rape was recorded from the victim's brother-in-law," he said in a statement today.
Ashari said that his party had received a complaint from a 26-year-old local woman regarding the gang rape at 4.52am.
He revealed that the investigation had found that the victim, who was sleeping in a room, had woken up as her mouth was covered with a hand.
He said there were five men in the room.
He shared that the victim's mouth had been covered, and the victim's hands had also been tied with a cloth.
He added that one of the suspects had raped the victim, and one of them had recorded a video of it.
"The case is being investigated under Section 375(B) of the Penal Code for gang rape, which can be punished with imprisonment of not less than 10 years and not more than 30 years," he stressed.
Ashari noted that the police had arrested the victim's 29-year-old brother-in-law in front of a restaurant at Jalan Rampai Niaga 5, Taman Sri Rampai, Wangsa Maju.
He said that the suspect is remanded for six days, from Sept 3 to 8.
Accordingly, the police have intensified their efforts to locate another four individuals who are still at large.
"The police request the cooperation of the public who have any information related to this incident to get in touch with the investigating officer, Inspector Siti Fadzilah Ahmad Fisal, at 017-6240252 or the Kuala Lumpur police hotline at 03-21159999 or any nearby police station," he added.
