Melaka needs additional allocation for development of Sungai Linggi ecotourism area
ALOR GAJAH - The Melaka government will apply for additional allocation from the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry (Motac) to develop and improve ecotourism infrastructure along the coast of Sungai Linggi, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh.
He said it would be carried out to improve the quality of the ecotourism area, which is currently being actively developed as another tourist attraction in the state, especially in conjunction with the 2024 Visit Melaka Year (TMM).
"The project will also involve upgrading of several jetties at riverbanks, public facilities such as toilets and beautification programme," he told a press conference after a working visit to the Sungai Linggi Ecotourism area here today.
He said the development of the Sungai Linggi Ecotourism project, which involved two phases, started on Jan 10, 2022, and was handed over on Dec 23 of the same year to the Alor Gajah Municipal Council (MPAG).
"The first phase of this tourism project was completed at a cost of RM2.3 million of which one of the components developed in the Sungai Linggi Ecotourism project is the construction of the main jetty. It also involves the construction of a walkway, a lookout tower, public toilets and 3D signages.
"The project components also include upgrading of the historical sites at Sabak Arang, Taman Lokan and Tebing Urut as well as Kota Simpang," he said.
For the development of Phase 2, he said, an allocation of RM5.3 million was needed and MPAG was in the process of applying for the fund.
The components in the project include a camping platform, floating restaurant, surau and caravan site, he added. - BERNAMA
