DAP slogan issue: PM’s assurance a relief to the Malays - Nur Jazlan
NOR AZURA MD AMINJOHOR BAHRU - Malay voters, especially in Pulai Parliament, can breathe a sigh of relief following Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s assurance to oppose DAP if they ever reject Islam and question sensitive matters involving Malays in the Constitution.
Umno supreme council member Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed revealed that a firm assurance from Anwar had essentially relieved the hearts of the Malays who had been extensively traumatised by the slogan of a Malaysian Malaysia and a Secular Nation that DAP previously fought for.
He pointed out that the prime minister as the highest exclusive authority in the country’s administration wanted the Malays to be confident that the unity government under his leadership would continue to ensure that the sanctity of Islam and the sovereignty of the constitution are maintained under any circumstance.
“Yesterday at the PH-BN campaign stage in Pulai Parliament which was attended by thousands of people as well as leaders from Umno, DAP, PKR and Amanah, Anwar Ibrahim gave an assurance that he will ensure that DAP will not dare to reject Islam or challenge the Malaysian Constitution.
“For me, the firm assurance from Anwar will surely ease the worry of the Malays of the position of Islam and the country’s constitution after the Unity Government was established through PH-BN cooperation,” he wrote on Facebook today.
Jazlan, also Pulai Division Umno leader, noted that although Umno leadership had previously given explanations and clarifications regarding DAP’s willingness to obey and not touch on sensitive matters in the constitution, many still doubted it.
In fact, he said that there are also folks who made blind accusations and said that DAP would oppress Malays in Umno, PKR and Amanah in the unity government.
“Even the opposition parties are no less loud with their slanders. It’s like Pas president saying that Islam forbids any relationship that can eliminate Islamic leadership or does not assert Islamic sovereignty or that Islam has no power to govern human life.
“But look at how it has been almost a year since the unity government has been together now, the relationship is still harmonious up until today. A few comments between leaders are normal because, in democracy, we celebrate differences to find common ground.
“So, I want to say thank you to the PM who may have given the assurance following my proposal asking for DAP to make changes to convince the Malays to continue their support of this unity government.
“Although it is my personal view, but it had received the attention of the leader of the unity government,” he expressed.
Jazlan shared that what matters the most to him was that the assurance from Anwar which came a few days before the voters in Pulai Parliament made their decision on the ballot paper was of utmost importance, especially to Umno grassroots and the Malay voters.
He was also confident that the premier would continue to protect the rights of non-Malays in the unity government and at the same time, defend the things that were enshrined in the constitution.
“This is because the main foundation of the unity government is to make the interests of the Malays the main focus and the welfare and prosperity of the non-Malay community remain intact. This is what is unique about the unity government today.
“That is why I am asking the Malay voters in this Parliament to come out on Sept 9 to elect a candidate from PH-BN to be the people’s representative here.
“Don't have any more doubts and try to get rid of the trauma of DAP's Malaysian Malaysia slogan which has already been promised by the party leaders themselves and assured by the PM," he said.
Therefore, Jazlan called on the by-election machinery including DAP's to keep convincing Chinese voters to come out and fulfil their responsibility of choosing a new leader on Sept 9.
"They need to make sure that the majority of Chinese voters who go out to vote for PH candidate Suhaizan Kaiat to replace the late Salahuddin whom they also gave victory to before," he added.
