Umno’s ‘purifying’ DAP’s Malaysian Malaysia fight – Idris
ZULHISHAM ISAHAKMUAR - Pas vice president Datuk Idris Ahmad claims that Umno leaders who were previously harsh and vocal against the concept of a Malaysian Malaysia now seem to be ‘purifying’ the DAP’s fight.
The Bagan Serai Member of Parliament revealed that Umno was the strongest party who were against the concept, but surprisingly, while some Umno leaders wanted it to be dropped, it was resisted by the party’s top leaders.
“Even though it has been 66 years since independence, they are still fighting for the concept of Malaysian Malaysia.
“Suddenly, when (Datuk) Nur Jazlan (Mohamed) asked to drop the concept of Malaysian Malaysia, some Umno leaders said that it was not Umno’s official stance.
“It means that the one who had purified what is carried by DAP was Umno’s very own leaders,” he said at Perikatan Nasional Ceramah at Voting District Unit 09 in Kampung Jeram last night.
Also present were Perlis Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli and Muafakat Nasional (MN) chairman Tan Sri Annuar Musa.
Previously, Jazlan who is also Pulai Division Umno leader had asked DAP to drop the Malaysian Malaysia claim and urged Pakatan Harapan (PH) components to reevaluate their commitment which among other things to abolish the Bumiputera quota system following an argument that such a goal would prevent the party from gaining the support of the Malays.
Commenting further, Idris shared that DAP had previously tried to hide the Malaysian Malaysian agenda, but their secret was blown when asked to drop the concept.
“DAP leaders said not to attempt using the Malaysian Malaysia concept, what is important is for us is to think about development. Can you see? Their agenda is hidden, but it is still running.
“They just didn’t say it out loud, but by the order of Allah SWT, they had issued a clear statement (defending the concept). Thanks to Anthony Loke, thanks to DAP. He had confirmed what we have been talking about all this time, explaining that DAP will not withdraw the Malaysian Malaysia concept.
“Good and simple. We don’t consider it a slander anymore, so that was what had been said; what they wish to fight for and this is what makes up our concern,” he pointed.
Idris said that DAP is now in the Unity Government and would do what it wanted without caring about other parties because it perceived itself as a kingmaker that could attract support at any time.
“They don’t care. Moreover, they are kingmakers in the unity government because they know that people do not dare to touch them. DAP holds the life of the unity government. If DAP does not support it, the government will tumble,” he claimed.
He added that today's unity government was actually a unit between Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and not a unity of their subordinates.
