MELAKA - The Melaka Tengah Social Welfare Department (JKM) asks the public to search for the heirs to a girl left in a rubbish bin near Langkawi Flat, Pantai Emas, Klebang here, last month.

JKM through a statement said the newborn girl still had her umbilical cord attached and left without any identification documents.

"The baby was saved as what was allotted in Section 17(1)(e)(ii) of the Child Act 2001 and had undergone checks as well as treatments in the Melaka Hospital.

"In the event of no heirs, JKM will gain a court order to place the baby in a JKM institute to be handed over to those who were suitable," it said on Monday.

The heirs were urged to step forward or contact the Melaka Tengah District Community Welfare Officer Siti Aishah Mohd Noor at 06-3333333.

Media previously reported that a pensioner found a baby with an attached umbilical cord and placenta at 10.30pm on Aug 20.

Melaka Tengah District Police chief Assistant Commissioner Christopher Patit was quoted stating that the 18-year-old son of the pensioner heard concerning sounds from the rubbish bin when he was passing by the area to his home in Taman Pantai Emas before informing his father.

"He brought the white plastic bag with the baby to the Batang Tiga Police Station at about 10.50pm," he said.
