Anwar admits 'communication weakness' in unity government
SHAH ALAM - Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim concedes that there are shortcomings in the government's communication apparatus, leading to a constant barrage of false allegations against both himself and the unity government.
Acknowledging the government's communication shortages, Anwar expressed frustration over the persistent false claims made by political opponents, which he finds challenging to counter fully.
Anwar responded to Form Six student identified as Syed Ali, who raised this issue during the Temu Anwar Johor Baru event held at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) in Skudai yesterday.
The event, lasting one and a half hours, drew more than 3,500 participants, primarily students and undergraduates.
Syed Ali highlighted the need for reforms in how the government disseminates information and proposed the establishment of a robust media unit to combat misinformation and slander effectively.
Anwar pointed out that most of the false claims originate from the Opposition, primarily on social media platforms like TikTok.
He cited baseless allegations that he opposes Islam, despite being a Muslim himself, as an example.
"How can Islam face challenges during my tenure as Prime Minister?
"As the head of government, it is my duty to also represent the diverse array of races and cultures that compose our nation, celebrating this diversity.
"My sole aim is equality," he stated.
Anwar acknowledged the critical social media posts and online condemnations directed at him, urging fairness and factual accuracy from his critics, especially concerning his international travels, which are often work-related.
"I exclusively utilise helicopters and available aircraft for official government matters.
"So, let's maintain reasonableness. I'm confident that my predecessors, including those from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), have encountered similar situations.
"I encourage you to inform your community," he commented, alluding to a former prime minister, without specifying Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
Anwar urged the youth to support the unity government in countering the culture of lies with a renewed political and economic narrative.
