Man dies in fight: Illicit affair believed to be cause
KOTA BHARU - Police have arrested a man to assist in an investigation related to a fight that resulted in the death of a victim at Jalan Lama Pasir Putih-Machang in front of the Machang Hospital.
Kelantan police chief Datuk Muhamad Zaki Harun said the 46-year-old suspect was apprehended after appearing at the Machang district police headquarters to lodge a police report.
He said initial investigations revealed that the motive behind the incident was the suspect's suspicion of the victim having an illicit relationship with his wife.
"The suspect works for a private company in Kuala Lumpur while the victim and the suspect's wife are civil servants in the same department in Kuala Krai," he said in a statement, today.
He said the fight led to the death of the 51-year-old victim while receiving treatment at the Machang Hospital.
"The victim suffered serious injuries and bleeding on the face as well as both eyes and a broken rib on the left side," he said.
Zaki said the suspect who allegedly attacked the victim unarmed sustained injuries on both hands.
"Further investigations revealed that both of them have no criminal records and the suspect tested negative for drugs.
"The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code and the suspect will be brought to the Machang court on Monday for remand under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code for further investigation," he added.
It was earlier reported that a civil servant died in a fight in front of a shop in Machang.
Witnesses claimed that both the suspect and the victim were in front of a shop discussing before a serious fight broke out between them.
