Man dies in scuffle outside shop
MACHANG - A civil servant died in a scuffle in front of a shop at Kampung Cabang Sungai Hala here, today.
In the incident at 11am, it was reported that the victim met another individual in front of the shop before a fight broke out between them.
A witness who was a worker at a motorcycle repair shop, Zahid Hasran, 28, said the two men ignored him as he told them not to fight.
“I warned them to stop punching each other.
“I told them I would call the cops if they continue to fight,” he said when met, today.
The photo of the scene had gone viral on social media since.
Zahid said prior to the incident, he saw a car stopping several metres outside of the shop he worked at before the two men had a discussion.
However, he said their discussion escalated and they started to berate each other.
“At that time I could not hear their conversation clearly as I was busy working,” he said.
He said several minutes later, the two men started punching each other.
“When I saw what was happening, I warned them to stop. Passerby were unable to help (break the fight) as the two were acting very aggressively,” he said.
He said the victim who was punched suffered head injuries and there was blood at the scene.
Zahid added that police then broke up the fight upon arrival at the scene and the victim was rushed to the Machang Hospital.
“I was made to understand that the victim died while on the way to the hospital,” he said.
Machang district police chief Superintendent Mohd Adli Mat Daud confirmed receiving a report over the incident.
He said police were now carrying out further investigations into the case.
