Teenager killed in accident after colliding with friend's motorcycle
ASWANY OMARKOTA BHARU - A motorcyclist died in an accident involving two motorcycles and a four-wheel drive on Friday.
The accident at about 10.15pm at Kilometre 9.7 of the Kota Bharu-Ketereh Highway caused the 18-year-old victim to die at the scene.
Kota Bharu district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Rosdi Daud, said the incident is believed to have occurred when a group of motorcyclists, including the victim, were believed to be riding at high speed.
"Upon arriving at the location, the victim, who was riding a Honda C-100 motorcycle from Kota Bharu to Ketereh via Lebuhraya Rakyat, suddenly collided with a group of riders.
"The victim and his friend suddenly fell in the lane on the right side of the road.
"At that time, a four-wheel drive travelling in the same direction hit and ran over the victim, but the driver fled the scene," he said in a statement on Sunday.
Mohd Rosdi said that the victim, who was self-employed and had an address in Pasir Puteh here, suffered serious injuries and died at the scene, while his friend suffered minor injuries.
He said the case was investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which can be punished with imprisonment of not less than five years and not more than 10 years and a fine of not less than RM20,000 and not more than RM50,000 if convicted.
He added that the police are seeking the public's information on the incident to come forward to help the investigation by contacting the Traffic Investigation Officer, Inspector Mohd Ikhwan Mamat, on 097752355.
