Road crash kills 16 Iranians visitors in Iraq

CAIRO - At least 16 people, mostly Iranian visitors, were killed in a road crash in northern Iraq, German news agency (dpa) quoted the Iraqi state news INA on Saturday.

Thirteen others were critically injured in the accident that happened in the northern province of Salah al-Din, chief of the provincial health department, Khaled Burhan, said.

"Most of the dead were from Iran,” he added. It was not clear when the accident had exactly occurred.

The crash involved a bus that was carrying visitors believed to have been heading to the holy city of Samarra, around 110 km north of the capital Baghdad.

The accident happened on a road linking Baghdad to Samarra, according to indepedent Iraqi portal Alsumaria News. The cause of the crash has not been established yet. - BERNAMA
