By-election: Factory bus driver arrested for damaging poster
JOHOR BAHRU - Johor police have arrested a local man on Friday under suspicion of damaging a political party's poster.
Johor Police Chief Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat said the 62-year-old factory bus driver was arrested by Johor Criminal Investigation Department (CID) ‘Cantas Team’ personnel in Skudai Kiri, Tampoi at 5.35am.
“The arrest was made following the reports received by Police in the Johor Bahru Utara District on Tuesday regarding a poster of a political party set up in the Tampoi area was destroyed using a sharp object.
“Intelligence and information tracked down the suspect and seized a political party flag, a serrated knife, a dashboard camera, a factory bus and a phone,” he said in a statement on Friday.
Kamarul Zaman said the suspect had one prior record and was remanded for four days starting on Friday.
“The case was investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code that brought a maximum prison sentence of five years or a fine or both if found guilty.
“All parties and supporters are advised to respect one another and not damage posters or banners.
“Any treacherous acts on assets of political parties were also restricted.
“Actions will be taken on those who goes against the law,” he said.
