Using a friend's motorcycle and forgetfulness among excuses to avoid arrest

SHAH ALAM - Borrowing a friend's motorcycle and forgetfulness was among the excuses given by motorcyclists after being detained for travelling with expired motorcycle licences (LKM) or road tax.

These offences were among those detected in an independence day eve operation conducted by the Selangor Road Transport Department (RTD) at Puchong Selatan Toll Plaza last Wednesday.

Selangor RTD deputy director Ahmad Kamarunzaman Mehat said that the operation started at 8pm led by the enforcement division chief Mazlini Yusof who inspected 2,112 vehicles.

According to him, 573 notices were also issued for various offences under the Road Transport Act 1987.

"Out of that number, the three main offences were expired LKM as many as 110 cases, no insurance cover (105 cases) and no Competent Driving Licence (CDL) (148 cases).

"17 motorcycles were also confiscated among which was because the LKM had expired for more than a year and foreigners who did not have a driver's licence," he told Sinar today.

He said that various excuses were given by riders after their motorcycles were confiscated such as waiting for the next paycheck, having no money to renew licences, borrowing a friend's motorcycle and being forgetful.

He advised both motorists and motorcyclists to always obey the rules and regulations on the road.

"Make sure that the vehicle is in a good condition and drive wisely.

The operation until 12am also involved members of the auxiliary police from Lingkaran Trans Kota Holdings Berhad (Litrak).

According to Kamarunzaman, any traffic offence complaint can be sent to [email protected] or the e-complaint application platform along with the details of the complainant and details of the complaint.
