Residents shocked over discovery of mortar bomb
MELAKA - Residents of Taman Tanjung Minyak were shocked after a mortar bomb was found in a bush near a house, here, today.
Melaka Tengah district police chief Assistant Commissioner Christopher Patit said the 30-centimetre object was found by a public member at 3.05pm while the 32-year-old was searching for bamboo shoots in the bushes nearby a sibling’s home.
He said further investigations found that the object was a 60mm practice mortar which was rusty and suspected to have been launched.
“A witness who found the bomb contacted the Tanjung Minyak police station for further action.
“The officers at the scene conducted an offensive search at the surrounding areas and found no other suspicious objects,” he said when contacted, today.
He said there were no accidents or damage to property reported and the police closed off the area with a caution tape.
“The object was brought back to the base for further action as the area was not suitable to dispose the case items,” he said.
