Indonesia acts against radical online content
JAKARTA - The Communication and Information Technology Ministry of Indonesia has removed 174 accounts and online content which were believed to have been involved in the promotion of radical ideologies and indoctrination from July up until now.
These contents were distributed across various digital platforms, including X, formerly known as Twitter, with 116 pieces of content, followed by 46 on Facebook, 11 on Instagram, and one on YouTube.
In a statement, its minister Budi Arie Setiadi noted the action aligned with President Joko Widodo’s directive to ensure peaceful elections in 2024.
The action was carried out in partnership with the Indonesian National Armed Forces and the country’s National Counter Terrorism Agency, which monitor digital platforms.
Their monitoring revealed a significant increase in the dissemination of radical contents, some of which are affiliated with Jemaah Ansharud Daulah (JAD) and Jemaah Islamiah (JI), the minister added.
Terrorism issue emerged as a significant concern during the 17th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara, last week.
Indonesia, the host country, emphasised the importance of bolstering regional cooperation to address this threat that has the potential to disrupt the region’s stability.
