Driver distracted with e-hailing app crashes into cyclist

SEPANG - Police have confirmed receiving a report regarding the viral video of a vehicle crashing into a cyclist from behind at Jalan Dengkil, Kota Warisan, here on Sunday.

Sepang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Kamarul Azran Wan Yusof said in the incident at 7.15am, it was reported that the driver was distracted checking the e-hailing application on the phone.

"The driver on the left lane from Kajang was heading towards the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and hit a cyclist causing the rider to fall and hit another bicycle.

“When arriving in Jalan Dengkil, Kota Warisan, the driver who was on the left lane received a message from the e-hailing application and went on to check the message.

“While checking the message, the driver crashed into a cyclist which nudged the cyclist forward into another cyclist.

“The accident caused the car to suffer damages at the front bumper and hood while the bicycle was damaged on the wheel and back rims,” he said in a statement, today.

Wan Kamarul commented the driver and cyclist have lodged police reports and their statements have been taken.
