Tourists will have to pay an entry fee to visit Bali next year
Tourists must pay 150,000 rupiah (RM46) to visit Bali, Indonesia starting next February.
Head of Tourism Office Tjokorda Bagus Pemayun said overseas visitors will be charged a levy per person for each entry to the island and the funds will be used to conserve coral reefs, mangroves, and other sustainable projects.
“The levy must be paid before or at the time of arrival, with the rest of the details still under discussion,” he said in a news report.
Bali is already grappling with a deluge of misbehaving visitors that have worsened crime rates and sparked the anger of residents, while Bali’s tourism sector has not fully rebounded from the pandemic.
In addition to that, the island has deported hundreds of tourists this year and issued a guide for how they should behave, including how to respect the local customs and rituals.
However, according to the statistics bureau, the tourist numbers rose steadily to nearly half a million in June which is more than double from a year ago.
