KUALA LUMPUR - New data reveals that 59 per cent of fatalities resulting from injuries during emergencies might have been avoided with prompt first aid intervention.

In response, Sunway Medical Centre Velocity (SMCV) has launched the "Save a Number, Save a Life" campaign.

The initiative aims to educate Malaysians about the importance of having emergency contact numbers for nearby healthcare institutions readily accessible.

The campaign's goal is to foster a culture of preparedness by raising awareness and providing essential knowledge about effectively managing medical emergencies.

To engage the community, SMCV will conduct street interviews and deploy a mobile truck to share campaign information.

They will introduce a campaign web application containing campaign objectives and a "First Aid E-Book" with essential tips.

SMCV CEO Susan Cheow stressed the significance of this campaign.

"As Sunway Medical Centre Velocity becomes a trusted tertiary healthcare provider for the community, our commitment to caring for our community remains steadfast.

"This campaign underlines our commitment by equipping the public with life-saving healthcare knowledge.

"We aspire to be a strong support for our community, always ready to assist," she said in a statement recently.

SMCV Consultant Emergency Physician Dr Lim Fang Jen expressed that with the 'Save a Number, Save a Life' campaign, their goal at Sunway Medical Centre Velocity is to heighten awareness among Malaysians regarding how timely first aid measures could result to greater treatment outcome.

"We also aim to educate individuals on essential first-aid measures to be taken while awaiting an ambulance or during hospital treatment. By imparting life-saving medical knowledge, we empower the public to respond swiftly and effectively, reducing further harm during critical emergencies," he said.
