Residents in fear after armed robbery shakes Kampung Nibong

HULU TERENGGANU - Fear has gripped the residents of Kampung Nibong in Kuala Berang following a reported armed robbery incident in the area.

Concerned residents have been taking precautions due to their worries about such developments.

A 69-year-old senior citizen, Zaid Zakaria, shared his unsettling experience.

He discovered marks on his kitchen door and noticed his gate had been opened by an individual early in the morning around 5.45am.

"I felt uneasy at the time, as it's usually closed tight," he said.

Zaid was thankful that his home remained safe, though he had to fix the door.

Zaid mentioned that this was the second time his home had been targeted in the 15 years he had lived there.

He recounted a previous break-in when his children were young, during which money from their savings was stolen.

Hulu Terengganu's Acting District Police Chief, Assistant Superintendent Raja Saripah Robiah Raja Sulaiman, confirmed receiving a report on the incident and mentioned that investigations were underway under Sections 395/397 of the Penal Code for group and armed robbery.

Kampung Nibong Voluntary Patrol Scheme (SRS) chief, Hazidi Hasan, highlighted that around 30 to 40 officers were involved in nightly patrol activities to monitor the village's safety.

He advised smaller households to be cautious and avoid leaving their homes at night.

Another resident, Suhaizan Yatim, aged 36, expressed that the community's efforts to hold patrols were contributing to restoring confidence in the village's security.

He mentioned that the presence of the SRS and police observations at night were reassuring for residents affected by recent incidents.
