JOHOR BAHRU - Police are investigating a statement made by Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang who had allegedly questioned the authority of the Pardon Board's during a ceramah at Bakri Pas headquarters, Muar last Saturday.

Johor police chief Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat said that the investigation is being carried out by Bukit Aman Classified Crime Investigation Unit (USJT) in accordance with Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948.

He said if found guilty Hadi could face a fine of up to RM5,000 or imprisoned for a maximum of three years or both if found guilty.

"Johor police contingent advises the public not to touch on religion, royal and race (3R) in order to preserve and maintain the public order.

"Action will be taken on anybody regardless of party if they touch on the issue," he said in a statement, today.

Last Saturday night, Hadi during Johor PN Premier Ceramah at Bakri Pas headquarters claimed that the way the country grants amnesty to an offender is not in accordance with Islamic principles.

He said the one entitled to grant pardon should rest among the family members of a victim in a crime, not the Pardon Board.
