KUALA SELANGOR - Perikatan Nasional (PN) Selangor State Assemblyman will discuss the post of the state's Deputy Speaker to be elected among the opposition.

Jeram assemblyman Datuk Harrison Hassan said the opposition has the right to suggest worthy candidates for the position of Selangor's Deputy Speaker.

"Traditionally, the Deputy Speaker of the State is appointed by the federal government, but there is no harm in giving this position to the opposition, and it will follow the rules set by the meeting," he said on Monday.

Harrison said that the suggestion would be presented at a meeting session attended by 22 PN Selangor assemblymen scheduled for Tuesday at the party's office in Shah Alam.

In addition, he said, discussions on the same day also focused on the appointment of the Selangor opposition leader.

"We think it would be fair if this particular proposal was brought in and decided to appoint an opposition leader in the state," he explained.

Harrison also explained that there will be other topics to be discussed during the meeting, which include assigning an assemblyman from the opposition to oversee the Selangor government's Exco portfolio.

"This appointment is like Exco's shadow as the opposition, but the real term has not been decided because the PN assemblyman will play a role in the mechanism of checks and balances," he added.
