Zahid worries Johor by-elections' performance will be similar to state polls - Idris Ahmad
SHAH ALAM - Pas has hit out at the statement made by Umno President Datuk Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi who requested that voters in Johor play a part in preventing more Pas representatives from winning in the state.
Its vice president said Zahid's comments appeared to be concerned that the election outcomes in Johor would mirror the performance of the previous six state elections.
"According to the results of the recent state polls, nearly six per cent of Malays supported Perikatan Nasional (PN). That is why he is worried about Johor's election result. They are terrified.
"He knows that people will see that Umno is no longer a safe haven for Malays.
"Perhaps he is more in support of the PH leaders and supporters, particularly Amanah candidates, who strongly support DAP's 'flooding' in Johor, which is more than Pas," he told Sinar Harian.
On Saturday, Zahid, also Deputy Prime Minister said that voters in the Pulai Parliament and Simpang Jeram state assembly can help prevent the 'flooding' of Pas representatives in Johor.
Idris also questioned the Barisan Nasional chairman's description of Pas as 'a pointed bamboo' who is always ready to stab from behind.
"How has Pas backstabbed Umno? Pas is, in fact, the one who offered the unity rope. Umno is the one who didn't want to cooperate with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) and Pas," he explained.
He stated that voter support, particularly among young people, is now increasing and is expected to affect the outcome of the Johor by-election.
