Elmina Crash: 'Oyen is no more'
SHAH ALAM: A cat called Oyen, who was also among the victims in the plane crash incident in Elmina, Shah Alam, on Thursday, has died.
This was confirmed by veterinary doctor Dr Zul Erwan via his social media account on Sunday.
He said the cat was found to be positive for the Feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV), similar to acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) in humans.
This has resulted in the animal's weak immune system.
"Complications of wounds in the spine make the infection spread faster.
"Oyen may be weak, and treatment has been given as best as possible, but Oyen could not survive," he said in a post on Sunday on Zul Erwan Veterinary Clinic's Instagram.
Health Ministry staff reportedly rescued the male cat and sent it to the clinic by ambulance.
Oyen had suffered a rib injury believed to be from shrapnel during the crash and was expected to take time to heal.
