Viral 'doa' recital case: Police hand over investigations to Jawi
KUALA LUMPUR - Investigations into a man reciting a dua (prayer) in a ceremony accompanied by religious ceremonies of other believers were handed over to the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (Jawi).
The Criminal Investigation Department (JSJ) director, Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain, said there were no criminal elements and it covered more religious issues.
"The case has been handed over to Jawi.
"If there are criminal elements in the cases, the Bukit Aman CID Classified Crime Investigation Unit (CCIU) will investigate them," he said on Saturday.
Jawi, in a statement on Wednesday, said it would conduct investigations on the matters involving the issue to ensure there were no other elements that violated Islamic law and fatwas.
Any offence related to Islamic creed could have legal action taken and punished under Act 559 of the Sharia Crimes Offences Act (Federal Territories) 1997.
Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Allaudeen Abdul Majid confirmed on Friday that a report was received on Aug 22.
